Over the past decade, the proportion of people who order food online over going out to
eat has dramatically increased. In fact in 2020, Deloitte found that 70% of people prefer
to order food online than to go out. Perhaps due to the rise in reliance on technology, we
choose to stay inside, in comfort and order the food we love, but why?
In the modern days, more people than ever are focused and busy with their career, and
they have less time to spare; meaning their time is much more valuable. As a result,
most people don’t want to waste time waiting for their food to arrive whilst not being able
to do something to pass the time. Being stuck at a table and having to wait anywhere
from 5 to 20 minutes for their food, not desirable. In addition to the time taken to
commute to these restaurants and fuel to drive.
Instead, people prefer to just order their food online, from the comfort of their home,
where they can keep working, where at most they lose a few minutes of their time
retrieving their food. On top of this, people have access to a wide range of food, and the
simplicity of placing an order provides a much higher level of convenience as compared
to going out and finding restaurants.
Another reason may be due to the fantastic deals we observe whilst being in the comfort
of our home. Advertisements for various discounts and deals are rife online, especially
on Uber eats where a referral system is in place, providing discounts for those who use
the app to order, and Deliveroo, which have started a rewards system for eligible orders.
These deals and discount mean that now ordering food online tends to be cheaper than
going out for food, where those same discounts and deals are rare to find in a
restaurant.
It's no wonder that the average person spends an outstanding £641 on takeaways in a
year and the food delivery market is still growing. Fresh Eats is another addition to serve
the need, currently covering South Manchester area for deliveries. Fresh Eats has
managed to draw bigger discounts from partner restaurants which they pass on to
customer. For this reason, same food items purchased through Fresh Eats come
cheaper than buying through Uber Eats, Deliveroo or Just Eat.
