In the last
two decades, the food delivery industry has already changed the societal norm
of what a restaurant should provide, where now it is considered to be strange
if an eatery does not provide the option for delivery or takeaway, whereas 20
years ago this would have been normal. There has already been a huge societal
impact with the increase in capability of the food delivery industry in the UK to the point where now we can get nearly any
takeaway wed want as long as it’s within a limited miles radius.
Yet another
way the food delivery industry undoubtedly had massive impacts on both
restaurants and customers, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic, platforms
such as Just eat and Uber eats ensured that many businesses didn’t have to
close down and could keep working. Uber eats claims that over 40% of businesses
were saved from closing their door completely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and
that over 90% of the businesses that joined them saw an increase in revenue
from takeaway.
Overall, it
is estimated that they supported £3.2 billion in economic value for the UK
economy- and remember Ube eats is only 2nd in market share with 27%,
whilst Just eat has a 45% of the market
share. With this data its safe to say the food delivery industry played a part
in stopping businesses from going bankrupt and helped to save the economy of
the UK from going downhill.
Furthermore,
it has also provided an increase in opportunities, allowing the restaurant
businesses to expand, to the point where now the introduction of mobile
takeaways have developed, where certain companies can travel around the UK and
produce food and have it delivered, on Deliveroo they are known as "Dark Kitchens”.
This opens up many new possibilities for the restaurant industry to evolve and
is sure to have a huge impact on the UK takeaway industry.
In the light of above stated facts, one can see
many new food delivery services are emerging, food delivery market is not
saturated yet, lot of business potential exists. Fresh Eats is also one of the
new kid on the block serving in Greater Manchester area.
